The present study was conducted with the aim of a scientific and multi-layered typology of the role-playing of the clergy in the sacred defense and to fill the gap of comprehensive and systematic studies; previous studies were mostly individual-oriented or unidimensional and did not explain the simultaneous connection of spiritual, operational, and organizational dimensions. The main question is what are the patterns and dimensions of the role-playing of the clergy and how can a coherent conceptual model be designed based on oral narratives? The research method is qualitative with a meta-analysis and content analysis approach. The statistical population includes 12 responsible and combatant clergy whose narratives were collected through oral history interviews. Data analysis was conducted in five steps: segmentation of semantic units, open coding, integration of codes, extraction of themes, and model design. The findings showed that the central core of role-playing is “spirituality and legitimization.” The middle layer includes three types of roles: combat-operational, propaganda-cultural, and organizational-strategic - with overlap. The outer layer also includes three outcomes: injecting and maintaining spirituality on the fronts, the memorial of the unknown spiritual martyrs, and individual lived experiences. The resulting three-layer model provides a structured picture of the function of religion and spirituality in war and serves as an analytical framework for comparative studies of war, the education of scholars, and the representation of the role of the unknown martyrs in cultural-media productions.
