This article examines the nature, goals, and structure of resistance groups in the Middle East, analyzing them within the framework of social and political movements.Drawing on sociological and political science theories, especially Manuel Castells’s views on the power of identity and social networks, it shows that these groups are not merely military or proxy tools, but rather movements with independent identities, shared values, and broad socio-political goals. The axis of resistance, as a regional network consisting of countries and groups such as Iran,Syria,Lebanon,Iraq, and Yemen, has been formed on the basis of principles such as seeking justice, anti-arrogance, defending holy shrines, and realizing a unified Islamic nation.By comparing resistance groups with proxy forces, this article examines their fundamental differences in matters such as dependence on foreign sponsors, organizational structure, strategic goals, and collective identity. The research findings show that resistance groups, unlike proxy forces that are mainly subordinate to the orders of great powers, have independence of action, popular support, and a coherent ideological framework. These movements, relying on decentralized networks and religious-social values, resisted the threats of ISIS and other proxy groups and have also played a decisive role in the geopolitical developments in the Middle East.By analyzing the information obtained in the interviews, and using qualitative analysis methods and documentary studies, the article concludes that resistance groups, especially after the recent developments in the region, have emerged as influential socio-political actors whose nature is different from the definition of proxy forces, and these movements, relying on the discourse of resistance and Islamic identity, have presented a new model of independent activism in the international system.
