Tension and conflict between two countries or political units in different dimensions of domestic, national, regional and international have a history as long as human age. Undoubtedly, one of the most important factors of tension and conflict between political units is the geography and geopolitics. The statesmen (rulers) of countries facing geopolitical constraints; try to change this situation, have often developmental views and are prone to tension and conflict. The Iraqi eight-year war against Iran is also one of the most important contemporary wars, which has largely influenced from the factor of geopolitics and geography. The purpose of this research is to investigate and explain the geopolitical factors of tension and conflict in the incite of Iraq's imposed war against Iran according to the tension and conflict theory. In fact, the present study seeks to answer the question of which are the most important geopolitical factors of tension and conflict between Iran and Iraq based on tension and conflict theory? This research based on its nature and method, is a descriptive-analytic one. The information required has been collected by the documentary method and referral of resources such as books, articles and valid reports. The findings of the research show that according to Peter Hagat, John M Collins, Edward Lotavak, Samuel Hententgton and Mohammad Reza Hafez Nia’s tension and conflict, the most important factors in the tension and conflict between Iran and Iraq that has caused imposed war, were Territory and realm, geo-economics, geo-culture, hydro-politic, political and geo-strategies.
